Dreams of the internet of years past
Honestly, I'm tired of what the internet has become. I've been around since the internet started and it was so much fun back then. There was a lot of creativity, a lot of community, and just a lot of positive things happening and connecting the world.
What's it like today? It's commercialized, it's bloated, it's full of ads being forced on us, requiring ad blockers just so we can stay sane (and secure), AI scraping every site to train models and slowing everything down. It's just terrible. And that's just the beginning. This is not the internet that I once loved all those years ago.
I'm trying to do my part to bring back the fun that we once experienced when people had blogs, when we used irc to talk to each other, and when we used forums to get support or help build worldwide communities. Sure, there are still ways to do all of this with today's software and websites, but it's with commercialized solutions that are bloated and, for the most, corporate-owned. I'm searching for ways to bring back the internet that I love. And one way is to move my personal site away from WordPress and bring it to Bear. I'm even going to bring my Linux and Open Source Consulting website over to Bear at some point. For my needs, Bear is perfect! It's fast, it certainly isn't bloated, and no corporations are shoving things down my throat.
I want the internet to be fun again.
